Ken Geason, better known as Melvin McGee acquired his free-style talent while admiring artists such as M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali, Dr. Seuss and H.R. Giger.
Melvin was born and raised on his family’s dairy farm in Hartland, Wisconsin. Seeing the hard working life of his father, Melvin decided to enlist in the service.
In 1999, Melvin joined the Marines as a reservist. With his extensive John Deere Tractor experience, he decided to become a Heavy Equipment Operator. After boot camp, he attended Visual Communication classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College.
Then, one day he got the call to drop his paintbrushes and report for Active Duty. He was going to Iraq. Melvin served as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This experience has forever changed his perspective on life.
After returning home, Melvin found work in construction. Painting part-time at night became a normal routine. He began doing art shows, and before long, his work started catching the eye of Art Collectors and Loyal Patrons. After four years of construction, he was finally able to trade in his muddy boots for some permanent paintbrushes. He travels the U.S. exhibiting his work.
His family continues to be his main inspiration. He enjoys playing with his wife and two kids, painting in his Green Bay studio, and sometimes just imagining.
